The city is permanently inhabited with 9500 citizens working in administration departments of the City, distributed on 1000 housing unit (500 in El worker district and 500 in El Hadaba) in addition to the private residential camps. The number of tourists visiting the city reaches about 120,000 person/year. The city comprises 27,000 tourists’ rooms in the hotels and resorts. It has 1100 shops with various activities including restaurants, bazaars, supermarket, clothes shops…etc. The Total number of personnel in tourism buildings reaches around 27,000 in addition to around 600 working in construction, which means that the city has around 100,000 people (more than 90% are of men) apart from tourists. A separate workers district exists in Sharm El Sheikh.
The city is divided into 6 districts regarding solid waste services, namely, El Hadaba, Sharm El Miaah (the market), Neamaa, North Neama, Nabk & El Montazah, El Roisat. The city length is around 35 km (from Ras Mohamed to Nabk) with average width around 2 km. 6 Departments are working in solid waste collection in Sahrm El Sheikh City. These departments include the City Council, Care Service, Neama bay Touristic Enterprises (NABAT Company), El Shahd, Group Cleanes Co. and Market Beautification and upgrading Association in Sharm El Sheikh. Care Service and NABAT Company are working under official contract with the city council, while El Shahd and Cleanex do not have official contract and are serving limited scale.
